Notes

Lela Francis Briles

Family information is unsure whether she was born in1921 or 1922. However, since her sister Melba was born in February 1923, the 1921 birth year seems the most likely.

In a letter from Winona Briles Brown (daughter of Lela's Uncle Wilbur) to Sara Briles Moriarty dated July 20, 1982, Winona reports that both Lela and her husband were at a Briles Family Reunion that took place in Italy, Texas, earlier that month, so they both still alive as of that date.

Darwood French

The Social Security Death Index says that his SS Card was issued in Texas and that it's number was 449-30-9793.

Melba Briles

Susan recalls that at some point Melba adopted two Spanish American children and recalls that they both were girls.

The above list of attendees also includes Derrick French and Darrell French as Darwood and Melba's grandsons, but it does not say which of their sons was the two boys' father.

In a letter from Winona Briles Brown (daughter of Melba's Uncle Wilbur) to Sara Briles Moriarty dated July 20, 1982, Winona reports that both Melba and her husband were at a Briles Family Reunion that took place in Italy, Texas, earlier that month, which seems to indicate that they both still alive as of that date. However, other sources say that they died in 1971 and 1970, respectively. Maybe Winona only meant to indicate that Melba and her husband had lived in Bryan, Texas, at the time of their deaths.

Daniel Eli "Cotton" Briles IV

One Briles family informant knew that Daniel and his family lived in Bellville, Texas, and that there were five children, but the informant did not know any of the children's names.

Another Briles family said that Daniel was married twice, but did not know the name of either wife.

In a letter from Winona Briles Brown (daughter of Daniel's uncle Wilbur) to Sara Briles Moriarty dated July 20, 1982, Winona reports that both D.E. and his wife were at a Briles Family Reunion that took place in Italy, Texas, earlier that month, so they both still alive as of that date.

Aline Briles

The 1910 Ellis County, Texas, Census says that she was 7 months old in April 1910, which would mean that she was born in October 1909. However, Aline's records with the Social Security Administration says that she was born on August 23, 1909. The SS records are used above.

In a letter from Winona Briles Brown (daughter of Aline's Uncle Wilbur) to Sara Briles Moriarty dated July 20, 1982, Winona reports that both Aline and her husband were at a Briles Family Reunion that took place in Italy, Texas, earlier that month, so they both still alive as of that date. In that letter, Winona also says that Aline was 72 years old when the reunion took place, which, depending upon the month of her birth, agrees with the birth year given for her above.

In a letter from Winona to Sara dated Decmeber 1983, Winona says that, as of that date, Aline had moved to Bryan, Brazos County, Texas to live near her children and that her grandsons were attending Texas A&M in nearby College Station, Texas, at that time.

The Social Security Death Index says that her SS Card was issued in Texas and that its number was 449-24-6863.
